Usually you don’t even notice someone has unfriended you until you either actually “miss” the person or you may notice your number of friends have changed.

Most of the time it doesn’t even really matter – it was an acquaintance, someone you knew growing up, or someone that was connected to you through someone else.

It’s when the person may be a close friend or family member when you start to question why they unfriended you. Then start the questioning in your mind……

Was is something I posted?

Are they mad at me?

Sometimes I post things (you probably do too) that may be in reference to one person or situation. Sometimes people take that post and insert their name (either out of guilt or self confidence) and really feel as if you are speaking to them. They take each post to heart and personally. I even sometimes do this.

Living in Wisconsin, there is a lot going on in our political scape. There are lots of strong opinions on both sides. I tend to enjoy debating politics so why wouldn’t I post my own opinions?

Well, let the unfriendings begin…….

I knew there would be some – so I glanced at the number of followers I had. Over the next week I managed to lose 10 friends and family members. Because I was watching the numbers I was able to figure out who was unfriending me.

It became an interesting social experiment.

One friend even completely blocked me from seeing her profile, along with her blocking several mutual friends of ours. I am pretty sure she did this so there was NO WAY that I could find out about her life.

It’s funny how different people react to different things.

Would people do this in person? If someone gave an opinion you didn’t like in person,would you say – ” We are no longer friends, please leave my life now”

People take Facebook friendships so lightly. That is why I needed to coin the quote-

If you can’t be my Facebook Friend, then there is no need to be my Real Friend!

So, Facebook unfriendings have forced me to evaluate relationships.

Just a note–

I also have a friend that has posted 3-4 times her political stance in the wisconsin debate which is opposite of mine. After almost 3 weeks of it I too got annoyed, but I didn’t unfriend her, I just clicked the x next to her post and hid all her posts until she gets back to “normal life.” That’s not to say I don’t go to her page every now and then to check out her page.

• When shooting food, get your shutter speed down and you may not even have to use a flash!
• Use a white board to reflect light and open up shadow.
• Aperture F-stop is like the human pupil. Opens more when dark, smaller when bright.
• Context. Deliberate. Everything in your frame is important . Is it part of your (picture) story?
• Mac Users, http://skitch.com/ is a FABULOUS (and free) way to resize, crop, and share photos.
• Use your flash even on a sunny day to help with shadows.
• Use clamp lights as an inexpensive light source for great photos.
• With photos, sometimes the concept supersedes the execution.
• Always save the original, work on a copy.
• Develop a point of view with your photos and make it a theme on your blog. (b/w, concept)
• Use all 4 sides of your photo and crop strategically!
• Crop creatively and purposefully.
• Be deliberate when taking pictures.
• The little things in the background of your photos makes people pay attention to the things that aren’t important.
• Pay attention to everything in the frame. It’s all important.
• Simplify your backgrounds when taking close up or food shots.
• Invest in an external flash and a tripod.
• Don’t be afraid to take risks, You’ll find what works and doesn’t.
• We see in 3D what we photograph in 2 D – learn to see what the camera sees.
• View your pictures through the lens of your camera.
• Move around a lot when you take pictures. Different angles make a difference.
• Photo should be about light, color and gesture.
• Photography is undervalued. Relevant pictures can help you connect to your audience and help you share your story.
• Because people don’t have a lot of time, photos in posts are important to communicating.
• Use pictures to share ideas and concepts with your readers.
• A relevant picture connects with your audience.

The next best thing to actually attending the conference is attending via Twitter!
